Introduction

Pronouns replace nouns. The noun that a pronoun replaces is called its antecedent

  • Personal pronouns are classified by person, number, gender, and case.

  • Relative pronouns are used to connect a subordinate or dependent clause to the main clause.

  • Interrogative pronouns are used to ask questions.

  • Demonstrative pronouns point out a particular noun.

  • As their name suggests, indefinite pronouns refer to people or things that are not defined.

Some of these words function as pronouns when used alone, but can also function as adjectives when they precede nouns.
